Located in the conventual buildings of the former Saint-Germain Abbey, the Musée Saint-Germain offers a complete archaeological tour on three levels, from prehistory to the end of the Middle Ages.
The archaeological collections come from ancient excavations and recent sites in Auxerre and the surrounding region.

- Prehistory room
- Mediterranean archaeology room
- Gallo-Roman archaeology room
- Monks’ room, organised around a model of the abbey and a copyist monk, evokes the history of the site as well as the activity of the scriptorium (writing workshop).
- Daily life in the Middle Ages room, presenting various collections : jewellery, tools, weapons, statues, from ancient finds or recent excavations, both from habitats and necropolises, in Auxerre and the region.
- Numismatics room featuring the exceptional Gariel collection. Coins and medals minted in Burgundy since Merovingian times.
- Sacristy, dedicated to the bishop Saint-Germain (378-448) is centred on the exhibition of a major piece the ‘shroud’ of the saint, an exceptional Byzantine fabric from the Year 1000.
