The museum highlights the technological changes that took place in France at the very end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th. These had a considerable influence on the atisanal world. New sources of energy such as the steam engine, the internal combustion engine and electricity revolutionised working methods in various trades (bakers, clog-makers, shoemakers, cheese-makers, etc.).
Steam engines, clog makers, cobblers... these words may not mean much to you. The Musée des Arts et Techniques in Champlitte tells the fascinating story of the technical changes that took place between the end of the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century. Beautiful reconstructions allow everyone to observe the transformations brought about by the arrival of the internal combustion engine and electricity in the trades of the time. The museum houses a unique collection of vintage machines assembled by priest and historian Jean-Christophe Demard, from the Renault KJ car of 1923 to the steam engines of the Millot company in Grayling. A must-see for lovers of antiques and vintage objects.
