A treasure unique in the world

Discover the 2000 m² of exhibition space at the Musée du Pays Châtillonnais - Trésor de Vix ! An essential stop-off on the Celtic route, the museum is housed in the buildings of Notre-Dame Abbey, founded on the initiative of Bernard de Clairvaux, and contains a treasure that is unique in the world : the Treasure of Vix.

Discovered in 1953, the most prestigious princely burial site from the end of the First Iron Age (500 BC) bears witness to the luxury and prestige of the first European elites. Lying on a chariot, the Lady of Vix was adorned with precious jewels. Beside her, the famous bronze vase, of exceptional dimensions (1.64 m high) and admirable aesthetics, still stands out today as a unique benchmark of Greek art and a shining illustration of the cultural exchange between the Celts and the Mediterranean populations.

As the chronological tour unfolds, the great Vix gives way to the Gallo-Roman world, and this collection, exceptional in both its abundance and its aesthetic appeal, tells us about the daily lives of our ancestors and their intense dialogue with the gods. Fine art, the Napoleonic epic, the metal industry and a cabinet of curiosities will take you on a journey through the Châtillonnais region from medieval times to the present day.

Alongside the permanent exhibition, the Musée du Pays Châtillonnais - Trésor de Vix hosts a wide range of events for children and adults throughout the year.
